Enrolled Agent

IRS is the US federal agency that oversees the collection of taxes and enforcement of tax laws).EAs must pass an examination or have sufficient experience as an IRS employee and pass a background check.

An enrolled agent (EA) is a tax professional authorized by the United States government to represent taxpayers in matters regarding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

As an EA, you may undertake the following services:

• Prepare tax returns,

• Represent clients before the IRS
 
• Have unlimited representation rights
 

• Appeal in favour of clients before the IRS and advice clients on taxation aspects related to their business transactions

How To Become An

Enrolled Agent

STEP 1: Obtain Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) for which a valid passport is mandatory
 
STEP 2: Register for the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE)
 
STEP 3: Achieve passing scores in all three parts of SEE
 
STEP 4: Apply for enrollment

Special Enrollment Examination contains 3 parts

Part 1 – Individuals

The Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) Individual is the first step for individuals aiming to become Enrolled Agents (EAs) in the United States. EAs are federally-authorized tax practitioners who can represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Part 2 – Businesses

The Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) Business is a crucial component for aspiring Enrolled Agents (EAs) in the United States. EAs hold the federal authorization to represent businesses before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in various tax matters.

Part 3 – Representation, practices procedures

The Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) Representation, Practices, and Procedures is the final hurdle for individuals aiming to become Enrolled Agents (EAs) in the United States. EAs wield the federal authority to represent taxpayers, both individuals and businesses, before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on various tax matters.

You can take all 3 together but it is suggested to go for 1 paper compared to three at a time.

Each Part of EA exam contains 100 MCQs.

Prometric, the company selected by IRS to administer the SEE, maintains a website where candidates can learn more about the SEE and register for the test.
