A scientific assistant supports the head scientist with regard to research and educational subjects related to IMD-specific research. They gather data, conduct experiments, and create detailed reports regarding their findings for their head scientist’s perusal.
The SSC or Staff Selection Commission will conduct an open competitive exam for recruitment to the post of scientific assistant in the India Meteorological Department.
- The examination will be advertised by the SSC based on the vacancies intimated by the IMD
- Applications for the examination will be accepted online mode only.
- The examination will be conducted in Computer Based Mode in Hindi and English, on a Pan India basis depending on the number of applicants from different states and Union Territories.
- Document verification will be carried out by the IMD.
- The final result will be processed and declared by the commission on its website.
Vacancies and Reservation
- There are a total of 990 vacancies. However, the number of vacancies is tentative and subject to variation.
- Reservations for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are available as per the extant government orders.
- The posts have been identified as suitable for people with disabilities such as One Arm affected (OA), One Leg affected (OL), Dwarfism (Dw), and Acid Attack Victims (AAV).
- These posts carry the All India Service Liability.
Nationality and Citizenship
A candidate must be either:
- A citizen of India
- A subject of Nepal
- A subject of Bhutan
- Tibetan refugees who came over to India (before 1st January, 1962) with the intention of permanently settling down in India.
- A candidate for whom a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment will be given only when the Government of India issues the necessary eligibility certificate to them.
Age Limit
Not exceeding thirty years as of 18/10/2022. Permissible age relaxation can be availed by certain categories.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics/ Computer Science/ IT/ Computer Applications as one of the subjects or,
- Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from a recognized institution/ university or equivalent.
- The candidates who have appeared in the final year of their graduation can also apply however, they must possess the essential qualifications required on or before the given cut-off date.
The commission conducts a two-hour computer-based examination that comprises two hundred questions that carry two hundred marks. The question paper comprises two parts with Part I comprising General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and Comprehension, and General Awareness, and Part II comprising the subjects of Physics/ Computer Science/ IT/ Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. Each part carries a hundred marks. The candidates are required to attempt both parts of the examination.
The examination is objective type, with multiple choice questions only. The questions will be set in both English and Hindi, excluding questions on English Language and Comprehension. Negative markings will be awarded for every wrong answer.
